OCOA Certificate of Lifesaving 1999
Conservation Officer Willie Sutherland
On May 7, 1999, Conservation Officer Willie Sutherland assisted in preventing a person from committing suicide.
While alone on patrol, Officer Sutherland met a person who had left suicide notes both at home and in his vehicle. A rifle was also reported missing from the person’s home. Although this person was visibly upset and possibly armed, Officer Sutherland was able to keep the person occupied and talking for 30 minutes until assistance arrived. The person was then taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Conservation Officer Willie Sutherland is commended for his courageous lifesaving actions.
